Artist Statement 2011

Memories are like dreams: tactile, yet fleeting. Ever-changing, unhinged, and unique between individuals and their perspectives. As we accumulate personal experiences throughout our life,  our memories coalesce accordingly. Our reference of a moment past is often sharp immediately after it happens. But in time, this call to mind shifts.  Details once endured fade with time.  Chronology transposes and events are recalled in different order, yet the feeling of the moment is the same.

Perspectives shift quickly, as shadows change with the time of day. Natural processes- growth, decay, currents, birth, death, all occur simultaneously, and can be explored in our memories and dreams. What we take away from this can also be used in observing the world around us. We still struggle to try to understand these complexities in our minds eye, and this will be a continual process by which we learn and grow from.

Different courses in life each give a unique perspective on remembering our past, as well as interpreting our present. In recalling these fragments of our consciousness, each instance will never be exactly the same. It this extremely personal process of remembering, imagining, and abstracted state of absorption that I would like to share with my viewer.
